How to do SEO for blogger blog in 2022

How can I optimize my Blogspot/Blogger Website for search engines? This question comes to many people before they hear from so-called SEO pundits- ‘Better give up this thought!’. Actually ‘saying that Blogger is not good for SEO‘ is an outcome of misconception about Blogger/Blogspot. However, based on my experience and some long-term friendship with content writers, I have come up with some ideas on how to optimize your Blogger/Blogspot website for search engine ranking.

Oh, I forgot to make a binary statement for the general question- Yes, it is possible to make Blogger/Blogspot website rank highest in the Google SERPs. If these websites can rank in Google SERPs, Yahoo, Bing, Yandex, and DuckDuckGo are not a big deal. Let us divide our guidelines into 3 main areas of Search Engine Optimization- On-page SEO, Off-page SEO, and Technical SEO.

On-page SEO

I remember one of my friends saying – ‘Content is King’. You should not write just for the sake of writing. Content writing is done for the consumers. The niche of content should have demand value, and the value should be of scale. If you write just for your own satisfaction and you do not catch much traffic, you should be happy with yourself.

However, many bloggers of today have become traffic hungry. Hence, they have been working hard to drive the traffic. Learning and practicing search engine optimization has become a necessity for today’s bloggers. When we say ‘content is king’, this should be the starting point of on-page SEO. After you select the interesting topic on which you are going to write, you need to immerse yourself in the depth of the knowledge, argument, critical stances, expansion of the contexts, and problematization of any matter of the blog post. This will make a reader much more connected to the blog post and the author. They will become the returning visitors. Such visitors, long time given to read the content, scrolling to read the content, reading other content after one, and surfing your website for looking about authors and contact details are examples of making the content a symbolic ‘king’. These things significantly impact your domain authority (DA) and the ranking of your pages in search engine result pages (SERPs).

Keyword Research and Practice

Since you are writing on a certain topic, you could already have potential readers located across multiple locations on the earth. However, they must be the right keyword away from you. There might be keywords of higher competition among the content producers. A new content producer of the 2020s may find it much more difficult to rank on the top position of the first page of Google SERPs when it comes to keywords of high competition. To avoid such frustration they can try putting in synonymous keywords- for example ‘awesome phones of 2022’ instead ‘top phones of 2022’. You can also use long-tail keywords- for example, ‘best phones to buy in Oklahoma’.

Title Tag and Meta Description

The second most important thing to do is to use the proper keywords in the title and meta description of the Blogger/Blogspot post. The title of the post must contain the keyword that you wish to have in the title. Most people do not understand what is the meta description of a Blogger-based website’s post. If you go to the editor page of a blog post on the Blogger platform, you can just put a meta description of the same blog post on the right-side panel. A meta description is like an introduction of the article before people might get interested to read your blog. Hence, the meta description should be written creatively and consist the strategic keywords.

Quality of Article

When you write your article, please do not practice ‘keyword stuffing’. Instead, you can freely write an article using a range of vocabulary and answers to a range of the audience’s potential questions. Also, comprehensive and long articles are preferred by search engines to allow higher rankings in search engines.

Formatting of text

Believe me or not, the blogs written with the usage of headers, bullet lists, numbered lists, texts with bold, italics, underline, etc. rank faster and better. Do not use these formatting styles without a plan. Use these WYSIWYG features meaningfully so that a reader truly appreciates you for quenching his/her with the blog post you have written. Think of your favorite exam preparation book which you would use for easy retrieval of information.

Table of Content

Table of content helps in the SEO of a blog post in many ways. For example, it helps in making the blog-post user-friendly. The proportion of the visitors leaving your website will decrease if you introduce TOCs in each of your old and new blog posts. This will increase DA and then the ranking in SERPs. The TOCs also provide internal linking within the blog post. The internal link also helps in identifying the key anchor words for your blog post. Such prioritization of anchor texts will suggest the search engines focus your blog posts in their SERPs for the identified keywords.

Breadcrumbs

In Blogger/BlogSpot websites, breadcrumbs appear in such a manner- Home>label 1>label 2>Post Title. The use of proper labels also helps in the categorization of articles and navigating the search engine bots accordingly. Duplication and use of excessive and unnecessary labels are not suggested by Blogger/Blogspot SEO experts.

URLs

Basically, the Blogspot website has URL like https://yoursite.blogspot.com. One of its articles may appear as https://mydreamproject.blogspot.com/2022/04/crazy-seo-guide-blogger-blogspot.html. Please do not put more than 5 words separated by a hyphen as Blogger/Blogspot slug. If you can write 3 words as a slug of such blog posts, and a maximum of 5. Use the target keyword(s) in the URL slug. The words used in domain names and the niche of your blog posts also matter in SEO. Please read the ‘domain name guide‘ to know more about domain ideas.

Images

Please use the images of smaller sizes. Since you are not selling your photograph online, a decent-looking image of size 40kb should be okay in your blog post. You may use a maximum of 3 images in a blog post. Please provide a proper ‘alt’ tag for your image. This can also carry focus keywords or their relatives.

Schema Tag

It might be a little difficult to use ‘schema’ for your blog post in Blogger. However, many modern Blogger/Blogspot templates have provided the default ‘article schema’ that comes to every blog post made using that theme. This helps to rank the blog posts in Google SERPs. You can also use the FAQ schema code from FAQ Schema Generator. There are other schemas like product schema, video schema, etc. You can find schema code generators for any. The Internet does not deprive you of anything if you act smart. Your Blogger-based website’s post can outrank the post written on the WordPress platform- I can bet. All you need to do is little hard work.

Internal Links

Internal links are supposed to make the visitors of your website read a maximum number of pages. If they do so, you can increase your website’s DA, and eventually the ranking in the SERPs. Internal links can help in the keywords of your priority for the internally linked blog post.

Speed of Pageload

To measure success in the blogging journey, your Blogger-based website (Blogspot website) should not load slowly. This negatively affects your SEO. You can use PageLoad Speed Checker. This service also suggests steps to increase your website’s loading speed.

Responsive Design

Google has formally announced that they will rank the websites that are responsive to be surfed with smaller screens of mobile phones and tablets. If you use the themes, and web designs that are not responsive to the screen size, you will be badly punished by Google’s SERPs. You can check the responsiveness of your website by using amiresponsive service.

Off-page SEO

Off-page SEO is all about driving traffic, and hence increasing your website’s domain authority (DA). You can do various things during off-page SEO. You do not need to work on your own website for off-page SEO. However, you must work hard in this area too.

Many other people drive traffic to their blogs through social media channels like Facebook pages, Instagram posts, Email newsletters, Push notification addons on browsers, Pinterest, etc. Some others choose to comment on other people’s blogs with links. However, such a practice is considered spamming. Posting with links to your own website/ webpages in the forums and as guests posts on other’s websites are not a bad idea.

Once, I tried to put the RSS feed of my new website on the sidebar of an already existing website and get the DA of the new website increased.

Youtube Channel and Linking

Actually, this idea sounds ridiculous. If a blog wants the traffic, they are increasingly needed to use the Youtube channels as well. Because, if they do not do it, some random competitor (maybe with lesser value content) may win the SEO race against your authentic and high-valued blog content. If you pitch the idea of attracting the traffic by linking in the description section of some successful Youtube channel’s videos, they may start their own website and outpace you in the SEO race.

Technical SEO

The final, yet the most important, aspect of SEO of Blogger/Blogspot website is technical SEO. First, you need to adjust the settings of your Blogger/Blogspot website for being SEO friendly. Then, you need to provide your website’s sitemap to Google Search Console. Be sure that the robots.txt file says clearly which kind of webpages/ posts to crawl and not to.

After your website is added as a property in Google Search Console, you also need to submit individual URL of your Blogger/Blogspot website’s pages and posts to be crawled (and indexed) by the Google Bots.

I recommend Jet Theme as fast loading, SEO friendly, and feature-rich free Blogger Theme. This theme should accelerate your Blogger website’s SEO.
